Beatriz María Canales H. de Cabello, 94, passed away April 7, 2022, at home in San Antonio where she was surrounded in love by her four children and extended family. Born in 1927 to Antonio T. Canales and Beatriz Hinojosa, Beatriz lived her life in Laredo.
A 1946 graduate of Martin High School, Beatriz worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell and later as a librarian with Laredo Independent School District.
Beatriz married Cruz Jose Cabello in 1953. She was active in parish ministry throughout Laredo. At San Francisco Javier Catholic Church, she played the organ and taught religion for many years. Later, she and her husband taught Sacrament of Marriage preparation courses at Cristo Rey Parish. Beatriz’s genuine devotion to Our Blessed Mother was inspirational.
Passionate about painting and drawing, she expressed her creativity in color and design. She has left us beautiful paintings and illustrations. An avid reader, she delighted in reciting poetry at family gatherings and special events. She enjoyed studying Mexican History, Spanish literature, and poetry.
Her first love was the care of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cruz José Cabello, her first son, Juan Manuel, and her sister, Francisca Canales Moran.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Maria (daughter Miriam), Cristina Elisa (husband Juan Carlos, sons Esteban and Carlos), Javier Francisco (wife Claudia and daughters Sofia and Teresa), Jorge Manuel (wife Rita, children Cristina, Diego, Clarisa, son-in-law Michael), and niece Teresa Morán Canales.
