IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raquel
Reyna
March 18, 1948 – March 3, 2026
Raquel Elisa Reyna, beloved daughter of Jose Rodarte and Elia V. Rodarte, wife, mother, teacher, librarian, and dear friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 3, 2026, in Laredo, Texas. She lived a life filled with family, faith, kindness toward criaturas big and small, and a deep love for learning, teaching, and the people around her.
She was born in Laredo on March 18, 1948, and growing up en la frontera nurtured a multicultural curiosity and a precocious spirit that would later define her work and her relationships. She devoted much of her life to education, serving as both a grade schoolteacher and librarian. She believed deeply in the power of books and knowledge to change lives, and she took great joy in guiding students toward discovery, imagination, and confidence. Many remember her not only for the lessons she taught, but for the patience, encouragement, and warmth she shared so freely.
Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. Raquel lived her faith quietly through prayer, compassion, and sincere concern for others. She trusted deeply in God’s providence through both joyful and difficult moments.
Above all, Raquel cherished her family. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Fred R. Reyna, Jr., and their union of 43 years was steady, faithful, and enduring. She created a home filled with warmth, cherished pets, delicious comiditas and Christmas cakes, and cared for everyone who walked through the door. Her presence brought laughter, a sense of peace, and a love for all God’s creatures to those around her.
Raquel will be remembered for her kind nature, her love of reading and learning, and the strength of her faith. She had a gift for making gente from all walks of like feel seen and heard.
She is survived by her loving children, Fred R. Reyna III, James A. Reyna Stockwell, Christina R. Reyna, and Larena M. Reyna as well as her three beautiful grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved Tía Lydia Peacock (age 96), as well as many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
Though her passing leaves deep sorrow in the hearts of those who loved her, they take comfort in knowing she is now resting peacefully in God’s embrace.
May the Angels lead you into Paradise, Raquel.
