Sir Knight Nicholas Charles Lichtenberger

Surrounded by his family and sustained through the prayers in his final hours, Sir Knight Nicholas “Nick” Charles Lichtenberger went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, in San Antonio, Texas. Nick started his career as a paramedic before he became a police officer in Freer, Texas, where he served the community for two years. Nick then applied for the police academy in Laredo, Texas graduating with the highest academic achievement in his class and devotedly served the Laredo community for 30 years, retiring as a lieutenant. A veteran officer of the Laredo Police Department, Nick received numerous recognitions, including Investigator of the Month in January 1993, May 1993, October 1993, February 1994 and May 1994, distinguished by the Webb County Domestic Violence, and an acknowledgement by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2009. As a result of his illness and his need for treatment, Nick spent a substantial amount of time in San Antonio, Texas where he became a member of St. Rose of Lima Knights of Columbus Council 11599 and a 4th Degree Charter Member of the St. Rodrigo Aguilar Alemán Assembly 3795. He dedicated his time and talents to serving as a Faithful Sentinel.He was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas C. Lichtenberger, a daughter, Linda Melissa Torres, a sister, Rachel Vasquez, a step-sibling, David Cavazos, and a niece, Ariel Shea Lichtenberger.Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Oralia Lichtenberger; children, Veronica (Michael Speer) Torres, Araceli (Carlos Cruz) Flores, and Anna (Jesus Ruiz) Lichtenberger; grandchildren, Stefanie Speer, April Speer, Timothy Speer, Allison Speer, Amber Speer, Aaron Chandarlis, Brandon Chandarlis, Krystal Zamora, Carlos Cruz Jr., and Adrian Herrera; and great grandchildren, Layla Ceja, Luis Ceja Jr., Melanie Vaquera, and Matthew Speer. stepmother, Elma Lichtenberger; siblings, Evelyn Huerta, Richard O. (Anna) Lichtenberger, and Jose Delfino Lichtenberger; step-siblings, Consuelo Bazan, Isidoro “Lolo” (Gracie) Cavazos, and Manuel (Nellie) Cavazos.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 12, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Aguero Funeral Home, 4402 E Saunders, Laredo, TX 78041. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. from Aguero Funeral Home and Crematorium to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church for a holy Mass at 9:00 a.m.Interment will be held at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
